Hosam Shawkey has long been fascinated by machinery and how they work — a passion that led him to pursue a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Suez Canal University. Fast-forward to 2019. It‘s a Sunday night, and he happened to catch an episode of the documentary series "How It's Made" on mechanical pressure gauges, filmed at WIKA’s facility in Lawrenceville, Georgia. A few days later, he came across a job posting for OEM (original equipment manufacturer) account manager — at none other than WIKA USA. It felt like a sign, and he promptly applied.
Technical Expertise, Business Knowledge, and Sustainability
Today, Hosam helps OEMs identify and implement precision measurement solutions tailored to their specific applications. A primary focus is high-tech industries. He works closely with leading semiconductor OEMs and tool manufacturers to support advanced instrumentation needs in wafer processing, thermal management, cleanroom environments, and other applications. He is equally well-versed in data center, particularly electronic sensors for cooling systems, energy monitoring, and environmental control.
Another sector that Hosam supports is clean energy transportation, especially LNG/CNG (liquid natural gas / compressed natural gas) and hydrogen. From the industrial pressure gauges on LNG/CNG vehicle fuel tanks to the specialized sensors used in hydrogen fueling stations, he partners with companies to deliver precision instrumentation that supports safety, efficiency, and innovation.
A third specialty is high-purity and sanitary applications in medical, pharmaceutical, and biotechnology sectors. “The mostly pressing requirements for these OEMs are accuracy, hygienic design, regulatory compliance, and process efficiency — areas where WIKA’s temperature, pressure, and level solutions consistently deliver value,” he said.
Regardless of the industry, customers appreciate Hosam’s understanding of complex applications and business requirements. This acumen is rooted in both his diverse professional journey and academic training. He has held roles as design engineer, applications engineer, project manager, national OEM sales manager, and VP of proposals and customer service. Along the way, he earned an MBA from Ohio University to deepen his expertise in operations and executive management, and completed the Strategic Sales Management program at Harvard University to sharpen his commercial and leadership capabilities.
More Than an Account Manager
Hosam’s official job title is OEM account manager, but his role goes far beyond managing accounts. “It’s not just about selling products,” he explained. “It’s about being a strategic partner to deliver innovative sensing solutions and offering insights that help my customers stay competitive and future-ready.”
Driven by a passion to help OEMs innovate, Hosam proudly calls himself a “new applications hunter.” This title reflects his proactive mindset: always scanning for unmet needs and crafting tailored solutions before they’re even requested. And he does this through one-on-interactions, “because that’s how I can truly understand what my customers are up against.” So committed is he to face time that he spends most workdays on the road, covering key OEM territories that include the Northeast, West Coast, and beyond.
Hosam is most satisfied with his work when WIKA delivers precisely the solutions his OEM customers need for greater performance, efficiency, and value. “I take pride in being a reliable, empathetic partner — someone who listens closely, responds quickly, and follows through with deliverables,” he said. “That’s how long-term relationships are built.”
Beyond his professional role, Hosam holds two additional titles: husband and father. He and his wife have two teenage sons, who keep their life vibrant and active. “Much of my free time revolves around the boys’ sports and activities — soccer, swimming, and mountain biking,” he said. “I find balance in family and movement,” he says. To recharge and stay focused, Hosam weight trains, hikes, and swims in the ocean near his New Jersey home.
